I kinda can't stand Halloween. I actually despise most holidays. But I love kids and every year at my job, the kids from the school around the corner come over and parade through the office. So in the spirit of Halloween, I decided to dress up...
I love my Martin Nails so much that I decided to keep them for Halloween. But seeing as how tomorrow is Dia De Los Muertos and Friday is my birthday, I'll have at least two new nail designs to post next week...
I've been making my concert rounds and stocking up on new releases. There have been some amazing albums released this year. And one of my most favorites so far this year (which also happened to be the most anticipated hip-hop album of 2012) is Kendrick Lamar's good kid m.A.A.d city...
Regular Version
Deluxe Version (the version I got)
There are tons of things that make me love this guy. He is an amazing artist. He is creative, funny and has a quiet, yet charismatic personality... But one thing that stood out to me is his almost obsession with the tv show Martin because my siblings and I all love that show and quote it religiously...
I've been listening to Kendrick's album since it dropped a week ago today and was inspired to do a nail art tribute to him, but I was not sure what I wanted to do. Then I was rummaging through my dvd's trying to find something to watch yesterday since my beloved Niners didn't play and I stumbled upon these...
Not sure where the rest of them are. I have every season... Grrr....
Well I was inspired! So I sketched out my design...
These are the results. Check it:
You like? I LOVE! Apparently, I had promised my sister I would braid her hair yesterday but I certainly did NOT remember that. Needless to say, she was pissed when I told her I was not going to braid her hair and risk messing up the design on my nails... Lol
Anyway, I just want to say that good kid, m.A.A.d city is an amazing album and everyone should have a copy... So pick it up!
Any man who walks out on an interview because the interviewer is not familiar with the show Martin, is alright in my book (skip to 3:25 to see the ridiculousness)...
Hooray for King Kendrick... That kind of ill-informed fuckery should not be tolerated... Get her out of here!
I just realized I never posted this! I'm slipping... Anyway, I'm posting it now. Better late than never, I guess. Lol...
I mentioned a few days ago that I started a cinema club and that the first event was to be held this past weekend. Well, it kicked off without a hitch and we had a great time. Check it:
The Originators
Us!
Hull Clean, the signature drink of the night.
The concession stand boasted nachos, hot dogs, candy and popcorn...
Someone stole a snickers before the party even started!
The table centerpiece, condiments and favors...
Little sis #1 to the far left as Heather Duke, homegirl extraordinaire in the middle as Heather Macnamara and little sis #2 as Veronica Sawyer to the far right...
The balloons I put outside to guide guests to the correct house...
Veronica, dinner!
I found this croquet set at Thrift Town for $5 and it just so happened to be 50% off of all blue tag items so I got it for $2.50!
SCORE!!!
I didnt really have time to do anyone's nails, so I'll just post a throwback pic of the Heathers nail art I did for my movie swag posts...
All in all, I had a great time while watching a great movie with great friends. I can't wait until next month when we will be watching none other than Killer Klowns from Outer Space!
In May, I went to my 25th Lupe Fiasco show where (among many other awesome things) this awesome thing happened:
Yep... That's Lupe and I hugging. We love each other. Lol...
On stage with Lu...
As awesome as that was... Lupe showing me so much love was not the only reason I had a great time. I also had a great time because of this guy:
Yes, ladies (and gentlemen?)... Miguel Pimentel, the singer with a golden voice who performs under the mononym, Miguel...
I'd heard a few of his songs and liked them before this show. I'd even bought Wale's Lotus Flower Bomb single on Amazon solely because of Miguel's vocals on the track (I cannot get jiggy with Wale) but I never really got into him like that. And it wasn't anything personal against Miguel... I'm just a Hip-Hop head. I don't get down with too much R&B... I LOVE rap...
But this guy... This guy COMPLETELY won me over at this show. He's an amazing performer with a killer stage presence but what really got me (if I'm being honest) was this:
Now, if you know me, you know I love 2Pac. LOVE. Here's a little picture to refresh your memory:
So when he led into his song "Quickie" with that 2Pac verse, I was an instant fan...
Well as of today, I have 2 shows and 5 months of being a Miguel fan under my belt. He is officially my favorite male singer which is no small feat, as I have never had a favorite male singer in my life. Ever.
Today his new album Kaleidoscope Dream comes out and I'm so excited... I just can't hide it! I pre-ordered the album last month so it will be waiting for me when I get home.
Since I don't have to go to the store and show my support by buying the album, I decided to support him on my nails. Check it:
Their not as neat as I wanted them to be. My sister kept flopping on my bed and making me mess up. That coupled with the fact that it was well past my bedtime when I started this made for the less than stellar work you see before you.
I love the colors though. Kaleidoscope nails!
Dope, right? I thought so too...
Anyway, I'm sure the album will be just as dope as my nails...
Watch as Miguel saves this video (and this song) from being completely corny and whack:
The video is styled after the movie Poetic Justice which just so happens to be my most favorite movie of all time. ALL TIME. And boasts Tupac Shakur (who just so happens to be one of my most favorite people of all time) as the lead actor... Smarten up, Wale... This could've been done so much better...
That's right folks... Yesterday, Lupe Fiasco had his album release party in NYC where he presented his first ever Outstanding Fan Awards, tweeting the winners out as the party was happening. I was honored to receive the Front Row Award. Check it:
How cool is that?! I don't do it for the accolades... I do it for the ratchets. Just kidding!
After receiving this in the mail a few weeks ago, I never expected to get more recognition from Lu:
Yes... that is a platinum record. What an awesome dude... I'm forever grateful...
You can see the full list of winners over at my blogging home away from home, The LupEND Blog (which just so happened to win best fan site. We cleaned up yesterday!)...
Since I'm trying to get back in the swing of things with posting on this blog on a somewhat regular basis, I've decided to start Flo-Jo Fridays again.
In my first Flo-Jo Friday post, I stated how Florence Delorez Griffith-Joyner is my personal nail icon so on the last Friday of each month, I will paint my nails in a style similar to something that she may have done to her nails. Check it:
I usually dont like designs where some of my nail is showing but I actually kind of like this...
I really wanted to start a book club but most people (at least most of the people I am around regularly) dont have time to read books like I do so I decided to start a cinema club instead. We'll be watching mostly cult classics and tomorrow is our premier event. We'll be watching Heathers...
To add a little spice to the event, my sisters and I will be dressing up like the Heathers...
Of course I will be wearing red in honor of Big Red herself, Heather Chandler.
And to make a short story long, that is why my Flo-Jo Friday design is red. I saw a picture of this design and thought it would be perfect for this post as well as for my Heathers outfit...
Anyway, I will post pictures of the event and of my sisters' nails. It should prove to be a pretty awesome event...
